(Throughout the search process, members of the committee will assume different roles and responsibilities. Positions already assigned are noted above.)
In addition, the Search Committee has asked Norm Howarth to serve as a facilitator for our group. In this capacity, he will be a non-voting participant whose primary role is to schedule and conduct meetings based on an agenda set by the Committee itself. We have asked him to serve in this capacity for several reasons. Most importantly, it provides an unbiased person to keep the group on task and direct our discussions while not being in a position to influence the direction or outcome of those deliberations. It keeps the Chair (and others) from having undue influence in the decision-making process, and also frees all the voting members to be fully involved in the discussions and able to express thoughts and opinions. Norm has already been invaluable in this role and we have asked him to continue in that capacity with us.
